Legacy of Kain: Defiance was released in 2003. It sated the desires of LOK fans everywhere, who were craving to know more about their cult series of games. But the game itself was left at a crucial point in the storyline; it was left open-ended and ready for a sequel, leaving people to whet their palettes impatiently.
Years have passed, yet no wind of another installment has met the ears of the masses. On the internet people are left to their own devices, forging finales of their own. It seems Defiance really was the end of the line - we just didn't recognise it...
The truth is it wasn't. Soon after Defiance was released, work began on a sequel entitled Legacy of Kain: The Dark Prophecy. Don't believe me? Then look at the portfolios I have linked to in the navigation bar. They show screenshots and concept work on the aborted project.
According to artist Jason Muck, work was discontinued three months into production. Why, we are not told. Though this is disappointing, it's not necessarily the end. Star Wars was supposed to be over after Return of the Jedi, remember? And then again after Revenge of the Sith. In the real world so long as there is still an audience willing to pay, production will keep on going. The creators may take up the project to relieve pressure, or sell it to someone who is willing to finish it.
The purpose of this project is to try and unify the LOK fanbase. All hope isn't lost and if we make the creators hear us we could get what we crave for. Write to Eidos and Crystal Dynamics (I would advise people inclined to bad temperment and vulgarity to avoid this, you will only offend people and ultimately hurt the campaign. Also, make sure you are literate.) and express yourself. If enough people do this there's no way we will be ignored.
Information on how you can do your part is in the "contact" section, stop mailing me about it.
